01

Prerequisites

Make sure you have everything ready before installing.

Active CoderForTraders subscription
Your subscription gives you billing-portal access — that's where the installer lives
NinjaTrader 8 installed
Download free from ninjatrader.com if needed
NinjaTrader 8 is CLOSED
Do not install while NT8 is running
Your NinjaTrader account email address
The address your NinjaTrader account is registered under — often not the address you pay with. Have it ready for license activation in step 05
02

Download the installer

The installer lives in your customer portal — sign in and hit Download.

1

Sign in to your customer portal

Open your customer portal and sign in with your CoderForTraders billing email — the address you pay with, not your NinjaTrader account email:

The installer is not publicly available — it lives behind your portal login and requires an active subscription. Don't share your portal access.
2

Hit Download

Click Download in the portal. The installer lands in your Downloads folder:

CFTPT_Setup_vx.x.x.x.exe
Your browser may show a security warning for .exe files — this is normal for new software. Click Keep or Keep anyway to proceed.
03

Run the installer

The installer copies the toolbox package to your Downloads folder.

1

Locate the downloaded file

Open your Downloads folder and find CFTPT_Setup_vx.x.x.x.exe

2

Run as normal user

Double-click the installer. If Windows SmartScreen appears, click More infoRun anyway.

No administrator rights required — the installer runs under your user account only.
3

Follow the setup wizard

Click through the welcome screen. The installer will automatically copy the toolbox zip file to your Downloads folder:

C:\Users\[YourName]\Downloads\CFTPT_Private_Toolbox_x.x.x.x.zip
When installation completes, you'll see instructions for the next step — importing into NinjaTrader.
macOS users: NinjaTrader 8 runs on Windows only. To use the Private Toolbox on macOS, you need to run NinjaTrader 8 inside a Windows virtual machine (Parallels, VMware Fusion, or Boot Camp).
1

Switch to your Windows environment

Open your Windows virtual machine or restart into Boot Camp before proceeding.

2

Download and run the installer inside Windows

Follow the same steps as the Windows instructions above. Sign in to your customer portal from within the Windows browser and hit Download, then run the installer.

04

Import into NinjaTrader 8

Use NinjaTrader's built-in import tool to install the toolbox.

Make sure NinjaTrader 8 is fully closed before starting this step. If NT8 is already running, close it now.
1

Open NinjaTrader 8

Launch NinjaTrader 8 from your desktop or Start menu.

2

Navigate to Import NinjaScript

In the NinjaTrader Control Center, follow this path:

3

Select the zip file

A file browser will open. Navigate to your Downloads folder and select:

CFTPT_Private_Toolbox_x.x.x.x.zip

Click Open.

4

NinjaTrader restarts

You will need to close and reopen NinjaTrader to complete the installation.

The Private Toolbox is now installed. License activation happens automatically on the next step.

License activation

Enter the email address your NinjaTrader account is registered under.

1

Activation prompt appears

After NinjaTrader restarts with the Private Toolbox installed, a license activation window will appear automatically.

2

Enter your NinjaTrader account email

Type the address your NinjaTrader account is registered under — the same one from the checklist in step 01. Enter it exactly as it is registered, capitalisation and spacing included.

This is often not the address you pay with. If your NinjaTrader account email and your CoderForTraders billing email are different, the one to enter here is the NinjaTrader one. If you're not sure which it is, check your NinjaTrader account before you type it.
3

Activation complete

The toolbox saves the address and uses it to check your subscription when it looks for a new version. The indicators and drawing tools themselves are licensed to your NinjaTrader account — which is why the address here has to be the one NinjaTrader knows you by.

The Private Toolbox is ready. Your tools appear in your regular NinjaTrader 8 Indicators and Drawing Tools lists, under the CFT_Private_ToolBox names.
06

Automatic updates

The Private Toolbox checks for updates automatically — installing one is a quick, guided step.

Every time NinjaTrader 8 launches, the Private Toolbox silently checks for a new version in the background. If an update is available, a notification appears with three options:

Product
Opens the CoderForTraders website to learn about what's new in the update.
Download
Takes you to your portal to download the new installer, then follow the update steps below.
Later
Dismisses the notification. You will be reminded again on the next NinjaTrader launch.
Updating over an existing version: remove the previous build first, then import the new one — both in the same sitting, with no restart in between. In NinjaTrader 8: Tools › Remove NinjaScript Assembly, select CFT_Private_ToolBox and remove it, then import the new zip via Tools › Import › NinjaScript Add-On (as in step 04). NinjaTrader will then ask to close the platform — the new version is live when you reopen it. Skipping the removal can cause an import conflict.
The update check happens once per day, silently in the background. It never interrupts your trading session.

Troubleshooting

Solutions to common installation issues.

"No active license found" error +

This means the email address entered doesn't match an active subscription. Check that:

  • The email is spelled correctly with no spaces
  • You're using the email that received the welcome email
  • Your subscription is still active (check your Zoho portal)
Indicators not visible after import +

Wait for NinjaTrader to fully restart after import. If indicators still don't appear:

  • Close NinjaTrader completely and reopen it
  • Check Tools → Utilities → NinjaScript Output for compilation errors
  • Try re-importing the zip file
Windows SmartScreen blocks the installer +

Windows SmartScreen may flag the installer because it's newly published software. This is expected. To proceed:

  1. Click More info on the SmartScreen dialog
  2. Click Run anyway
This warning disappears as more users install the software and Windows builds trust for the publisher.
Activation prompt never appeared +

If the license prompt didn't appear after restart:

  • Close and reopen NinjaTrader 8 — the prompt appears on startup
  • Check that the import completed successfully with no errors
  • Contact support if the issue persists
"A license is required" popup after joining a prop firm +

When you join a prop firm, the firm often sets up your NinjaTrader account under a different email than your regular one. Your tools are licensed to your NinjaTrader account email — so under that new login they won't load, and NinjaTrader shows a popup: "Vendor Notification — A license is required to use CoderForTraders VIP Plan."

Nothing is broken, and it's nobody's fault. Contact support with the email of the NinjaTrader account your prop firm set up, and we'll activate your tools on it too — free, takes a few minutes. Restart NinjaTrader and you're back. Your regular setup doesn't change.
